Austin offers plenty of ways to spend Juneteenth โ the moment when the last enslaved people in the U.S., in Galveston, were informed of their freedom, on June 19, 1865.
๐ Celebrate Juneteenth at 6pm Saturday during the first annual Eighteen65 event from Origin Studio House and The Emancipator. Tickets start at $20 and include food from Phoenix Grille and Nosh'd Luxury Snacks at the new Origin Studio House at 2925 East 12th Street.
๐ Listen to activists and scholars make sense of the rich history of Juneteenth at the third annual Juneteenth Freedom Summit at the University of Texas. The free event at Bass Lecture Hall is at 2pm Monday.
๐คค Discover delicious food, merchants, music and more during the Diaspora Food Festival from 11am-6pm Sunday at the Armadillo Den. Free entry.
๐ Take a trip to Bastrop for the Juneteenth Celebration Parade at 10am Saturday down Main Street.
๐งบ Grab a lawn chair and a blanket and head to the Pflugerville Pfamily Reunion hosted by Black Pflugerville, featuring vendors, food trucks and kid friendly fun from 5-7pm Sunday at Pfluger Park.
โ๏ธ Learn from organizations and individuals making an impact during the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center's fourth annual Stay Black and Live Juneteenth Festival through June 19.
- The festival will include a Juneteenth Parade from East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Rosewood Park from 9:30am to 12pm Saturday.
