American Kendall Gretsch just beat Australia's Lauren Parker to win the women's PTWC race at the Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday morning.

The big picture: Gretsch finished her first summer Olympics event with a time of 1:06:25, Parker recorded 1:06:26. Gretsch is the third U.S. woman, and fifth American overall, to win gold medals at the summer and winter Paralympic Games, NBC Sports notes. She previously won two golds in Nordic skiing at the 2018 winter Games.

The U.S. men's wheelchair basketball team beat Japan 64-60 to win gold at the Paralympics Sunday — Team USA's final Tokyo Games medal.

Of note: The American women's team won a bronze medal on Saturday.

More than a year after they were supposed to begin, the Tokyo Paralympic Games drew to an end with a closing ceremony on Sunday, with five-time Paralympian Matt Scott serving as the U.S. flagbearer for the event.

Why it matters: The Games, which began in Japan amid COVID state of emergency, closed Sunday in front of a largely empty Olympic Stadium.

The U.S. has reached a tipping point in its shift from the industrial economy — one that relied on the buildout of hardware — to an information economy that relies on the transfer, storage and implementation of data, according to a new report.

Why it matters: This shift towards a data and information-based economy has allowed more businesses to establish themselves and scale quickly and at a very low cost. As such, the number of jobs created by the commercial internet has more than tripled since 2012.
