Then-President Donald Trump is greeted by NFL Hall of Fame member Herschel Walker during an event for Black supporters at the Cobb Galleria Centre, Sept. 25, 2020, in Atlanta. Photo: Brendan Smialowski/AFP

Former NFL running back Herschel Walker has filed paperwork to run for Senate, challenging freshman Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in Georgia next year.

Driving the news: Walker, a Republican, has received support from former president Donald Trump but has faced scrutiny over his recent residency in Texas.

  • Just last week, Walker registered to vote in Georgia, making him an official Peach State resident.

The details: Walker's campaign website was not yet active as of Tuesday afternoon, but details in a pair of filings with the Federal Election Commission provide a glimpse of his campaign team.

  • The campaign's treasurer and custodian are consultants with the Georgia firm RTA Strategy. They work with other prominent Republicans in the state, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
  • Working on the Walker campaign's compliance program is Stefan Passantino, a former senior Trump White House and campaign attorney.
  • The still-inactive Walker campaign website was registered by the South Carolina-based firm Push Digital.

The big picture: Walker is the fifth Republican to enter the race to unseat Warnock, who narrowly defeated Sen. Kelly Loeffler in January.

  • Trump has repeatedly urged Walker to run for the seat. "He would be unstoppable, just like he was when he played for the Georgia Bulldogs, and in the NFL. He is also a GREAT person. Run Herschel, run!" Trump said in a statement in March.
  • Walker has tried to fend off scrutiny of his residency. He's lived in Dallas for a decade, where he's claimed a property tax benefit reserved for a primary residence.
  • State officials recently opened a probe into Walker's wife's decision to vote in Georgia last year.

How to see North Georgia's best fall leaves

Fort Mountain State Park. Photo courtesy of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources

Fall is the best time to venture to the North Georgia mountains, when the air turns crisp, and the leaves turn rust, amber and ocher.

  • Seems early, right? But if you want to escape the city and take in some of Georgia's natural beauty, start researching jaunts now.

Why it matters: Leaf colors in North Georgia hit their peak in mid- to late October, says Kim Hatcher, the public affairs coordinator with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' state parks division. The higher the elevation, the sooner the leaves change colors.

Justice Department asks Supreme Court to block Texas abortion ban

The Justice Department on Monday asked the Supreme Court to temporarily block Texas' near-total ban on abortions while federal courts consider its constitutionality.

The big picture: The court last month allowed the ban to take effect, rejecting an emergency application by abortion-rights groups. The law bars the procedure after cardiac activity is detected, as early as six weeks into pregnancy.

This arthritis drug cost $198 in 2008. Now it's more than $10,000

Illustration: Aïda Amer/Axios

In 2008, a box of 30 anti-inflammatory rectal suppositories that treats arthritis, called Indocin, had a price tag of $198. As of Oct. 1, the price of that same box was 52 times higher, totaling $10,350.

Why it matters: As federal lawmakers continue to waver on drug price reforms, Indocin is another example of how nothing prevents drug companies from hiking prices at will and selling them within a broken supply chain.
