President Biden and Vice President Harris discuss notes from a meeting in March about COVID-19. Official White House Photo: Adam Schultz

President Biden and Vice President Harris have their own "Pete Souzas," and they're also working to create a visual archive of the new administration.

Why it matters: Photographers Adam Schultz, Lawrence Jackson and their colleagues have a number of social media sites that give a look at the president and vice president when the news media isn't present.

  • Souza did the same for President Obama, creating a huge social media following for him and the White House.
  • His legacy has continued with books and an MSNBC special, "The Way I See It."

Schultz photographed Biden throughout the 2020 campaign and now serves as the president's official photographer.

  • Jackson fills the same role for the vice president, after photographing Harris during the general election campaign. He previously was an assistant photographer under Souza during the Obama administration.

White House sees Hill deal on Biden's spending plans "soon"

A White House official tells me talks with Democratic lawmakers on the final shape of President Biden's Build Back Better agenda "are accelerating ... [T]his progress means we can conclude negotiations soon."

Driving the news: "There’s urgency and purpose in our conversations behind bringing these game-changing economic growth plans home for families, and we feel good about the momentum," the official said.

Biden to meet with Pope Francis to discuss COVID and climate change

President Biden will meet with Pope Francis in Vatican City later this month, the White House said Thursday.

Why it matters: At the Oct. 29 meeting, the pair will discuss "ending the COVID-19 pandemic, tackling the climate crisis, and caring for the poor," according to the White House.

GOP senator calls for senility test for aging leaders

Photo: "Axios on HBO"

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), a physician, told me during an "Axios on HBO" interview that he favors cognition tests for aging leaders of all three branches of government.

Why it matters: Wisdom comes with age. But science also shows that we lose something. And much of the world is now run by old people — including President Biden, 78 ... Speaker Pelosi, 81 ...  Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, 70 ... and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 79.
