The Alaska Republican Party endorsed former state commissioner Kelly Tshibaka on Saturday for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska).

Why it matters: It's another sign of division in the GOP between supporters of former President Trump and those who've publicly criticized him. Several senators have been censured in their home states for voting to convict Trump at his second impeachment trial earlier this year — including Murkowski.

A tweet previously embedded here has been deleted or was tweeted from an account that has been suspended or deleted.

By the numbers: Members of the Alaska Republican State Central Committee voted 58-17 to endorse Tshibaka, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

The big picture: Murkowski has yet to file for re-election, but she said in a statement to the Daily News after the vote that she has "fought for Alaskan values in the U.S. Senate and will continue to do so."

GOP Sen. Cassidy warns of “true colors” test

Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana — one of the few Republicans who voted both to convict President Trump and to approve the infrastructure deal — told me in an “Axios on HBO” interview:

  • “People assume that if you're moderate in tone and you wish to connect with others for a common goal of improving our country in some way, you don't have true colors — whatever those colors are supposed to be, red or blue.”

The U.S. has reached a tipping point in its shift from the industrial economy — one that relied on the buildout of hardware — to an information economy that relies on the transfer, storage and implementation of data, according to a new report.

Why it matters: This shift towards a data and information-based economy has allowed more businesses to establish themselves and scale quickly and at a very low cost. As such, the number of jobs created by the commercial internet has more than tripled since 2012.

Amazon's small business shield

Amazon is touting the success of small sellers on its platform through the pandemic — and warning that antitrust legislation could jeopardize that success and blow up its open-marketplace model.

Why it matters: As online shopping became a lifeline for both businesses and consumers during the pandemic, Amazon reaped big benefits, but also saw its regulatory risk grow.
