Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway are launching a weekly newsletter Nov. 2 called Pivot Post, an extension of their hit business and tech podcast "Pivot."
Why it matters: The newsletter gives the duo another platform to engage fans directly beyond their podcast and live events.
Zoom in: Pivot Post will be delivered free to email subscribers every Monday. It will be sent via Beehiiv, a newsletter platform for independent creators and publishers, a spokesperson for the company confirmed.
- The newsletter gives Swisher and Galloway a new way to answer audience questions about how the business and tech stories covered on the podcast impact their lives and communities.
- The pair will respond directly to select audience questions, and they'll also tap experts who appear on the show for support.
What they're saying: "Pivot audiences are smart and thoughtful and also tolerant to listen to us bicker so much. Since they know more than we do, they will be the source of incredibly substantive questions that will drive this newsletter's topics," Swisher and Galloway said in a statement.
- "We always say we love interacting with fans, and the Pivot Post with Beehiiv is a place to do it more consistently and up close. But not too close, because that would be wrong."
State of play: They aren't building a newsletter audience from scratch. A spokesperson for Vox Media, which distributes "Pivot" as part of its podcast network, said, "We've started gathering emails as part of our marketing for the Pivot tour, and will continue building the list on the tour and by getting the word out on the show."
Zoom out: Swisher and Galloway have invested in more cross-platform opportunities to reach users looking for a deeper connection to the hosts.
- Pivot Post kicks off the pair's national live podcast tour. Beehiiv is also the title sponsor of the tour.
- Beehiiv co-founder and CEO Tyler Denk said the newsletter gives the pair a way to further own their audience relationship "and extend an already incredibly successful brand."
Between the lines: The effort has been lucrative.
- Swisher said at On Air Fest in February that she generated roughly $2.5 million from a week of live shows, which she described as relatively inexpensive to produce.
The big picture: The partnership is an example of Beehiiv's expansion efforts as a platform for established journalists.
- Today, more than 30 journalists are part of the Beehiiv Media Collective. Major news brands, such as TechCrunch, the Washington Post and Time also host newsletters on Beehiiv.
