Trump's economic polling sinks, rivaling Biden's worst

By the numbers: Just 26% of voters approve of Trump's handling of the economy overall, a fresh low, per the AP.

• 65% blame his policies for high prices.

In mid-2022, at the worst of the post-COVID inflation, Biden's economic approval rating was 28%, AP noted.

• 44% said his policies were to blame for high prices at the time.

Between the lines: The new poll fits with other national surveys over the last month that similarly showed Trump's approval on the economy somewhere from the high 20s to the high 30s.

The intrigue: There's ample evidence that the economy isn't that weak — growth is solid, the labor market is stable, and inflation is nowhere near the worst of Biden's era.

• But tell that to fed-up Americans who pay more for gas and groceries and can't afford to buy a house at eye-watering interest rates.
• In the latest Economist/YouGov poll, one-third of Trump's own 2024 voters said they felt the economy was getting worse.

For the record: The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the poll.

The bottom line: Trump won in 2024 promising to fix Biden's economy and make everything better.

• In 33 days midterm voters will pass judgment on his efforts.
