House members launch new bipartisan AI caucus

A bipartisan caucus is launching in the House on Monday to focus on AI small businesses.

Why it matters: The new group is forming as Congressional leadership grapples with the political and existential emergency created by AI's rapidly evolving capabilities.

Zoom in: The new caucus will be called the Innovators Caucus and will be led by Reps. Russell Fry (R-S.C.) and Suhas Subramanyam (D-Va.), according to a release provided to Axios.

The goals of the group are to bring small businesses to the AI policymaking table, start work on a federal framework and help the U.S. maintain its competitive edge with AI.
The new group will be in addition to a separate bipartisan AI-focused caucus headed by Reps. Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.) and Don Beyer (D-Va.) that already exists.

What to watch: A dozen companies affiliated with the American Innovators Network will be visiting with lawmakers this week.

It also comes as Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is expected to meet with top AI executives in the coming days.
