Maureen Galindo defeated in Democratic House primary

• Garcia was heavily backed by the centrist Blue Dog Coalition, but revelations about Galindo's remarks prompted other corners of the party to throw their support behind him as well.
• The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, House Democrats' campaign arm, took the unusual step of spending about $35,000 to run ads attacking Galindo in the final stretch of the race.
• Galindo was backed by nearly $900,000 from a mysterious group called Lead Left PAC, which Democrats alleged was a GOP front aimed at propping up the weaker of the Democratic candidates.

Zoom in: The race drew national attention earlier this month when the Washington Free Beacon reported on social media comments Galindo had made slamming "Jews who own Hollywood" and the "Synagogue of Satan."

• Rather than run away from the comments, Galindo said she would introduce legislation to have "all American candidates and elected officials who have ever taken Israeli money tried for treason."
• Galindo's campaign even went so far as to say she would convert an ICE facility in her district into a "prison for American Zionists."

State of play: Galindo's comments prompted the anti-Zionist group AIPAC Tracker to pull its support for her, with Congressional Progressive Caucus chair Greg Casar (D-Texas) going so far as to endorse Garcia.

• Virtually Galindo's only support came from Lead Left PAC, a group whose website says it "stands against MAGA extremists who will infect our country with Donald Trump's agenda."

• But the site also reportedly had a link to WinRed — Republicans' main fundraising platform — in its metadata, leading Democrats to conclude it was a GOP sock puppet.

What to watch: Garcia is set to face Carlos De La Cruz, a veteran and small business owner who defeated state Rep. John Lujan in the GOP runoff — thanks in part to an endorsement from President Trump.

• Carlos De La Cruz is the brother of Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas).
• The district, which came about as a result of Texas' mid-decade redistricting, leans Republican. Trump won 55% of the vote there in 2024.
• But Democrats are hopeful that a nationwide wave — which they think will be especially strong with Hispanic voters who dominate the district — will help put Garcia over the top.
