How Ralph Lauren outfits Team USA

One of the first stops for Team USA athletes when they get to Italy is getting outfitted by Ralph Lauren, a process that involves quickly measuring and tailoring outfits for opening and closing ceremonies, as well as other clothes for wearing around the Olympic Village.

Why it matters: Although the impromptu fashion show typically follows a long flight, athletes have been embracing the moment, posting their fits on social media.

Zoom in: This year's 10-piece outfit for the opening ceremony features a long "winter-white" wool coat with wooden toggles, a flag-emblazoned wool turtleneck, along with wool trousers and boots, while the equally intricate closing ceremony outfit "draws inspiration from vintage ski racing" gear and features a red-white-and-blue puffer jacket and white utility pants.

Axios was on hand Wednesday as moguls skiers Jaelin Kauf (a previous silver medalist), Olivia Giaccio, Elizabeth Lemley and Tess Johnson got their fitting.
"Finally hats for big heads," Giaccio exclaimed as she tried on a hat.
In all, Ralph Lauren will suit up around 300 Olympic and Paralympic athletes in Milan, along with around 780 staff, coaches and trainers for Team USA.

Zoom out: Ralph Lauren has provided the wardrobe for American athletes at every Olympics since the Summer Games in Beijing in 2008.

It's not just Ralph Lauren products either. Athletes also received gear from New Era, Nike, Oakley, among others.
