Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) raised $1.4 million in the final quarter of the year leaving him with $5.8 million cash on hand as he prepares to face former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska), according to a person familiar with the matter.
Why it matters: Peltola raised $1.5 million in her first 24 hours after launching her campaign in mid-January.
- Alaska is typically a cheap state in which to run a Senate race, but Peltola's entry is likely to make it far more expensive.
- Sullivan's fundraising suggests he was taking a potential challenge seriously even before Peltola officially entered the race earlier this month — though Peltola's early success underscores the scale of the fight ahead.
Zoom out: With less than 11 months until Election Day, the Senate map is coming into sharper focus.
- Democrats have landed their top-tier recruits in Alaska, Ohio and North Carolina — three states they would need to flip to capture the majority.
- But they face contentious primaries in Michigan, which they must hold, and Maine, the only blue state currently represented by a GOP incumbent, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).
What we're watching: Former impeachment witness Alexander Vindman jumped into the Senate race in Florida on Tuesday, where he will challenge Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), who was appointed to the seat.
- Florida is now solidly red, but Vindman's twin brother, Rep. Eugene Vindman (D-Va.), is an online fundraising sensation, and Alexander Vindman is expected to be well-financed.
The other side: Republicans like their candidates in Michigan and New Hampshire, but GOP leaders and the White House have yet to settle on a challenger to Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), once viewed as one of the GOP's most promising pickup opportunities.
- In New Hampshire, GOP leaders are lining up behind former Sen. John Sununu as he makes a comeback bid for the open seat.
- And in Texas, the Senate Leadership Fund is prepared to spend millions carry Sen. John Cornyn (R) through a spirited three-way primary.
- Cornyn raised $7 million last quarter, according to his campaign.
The bottom line: Democratic candidates appear to be having little trouble raising money this cycle.
- In Maine, oysterman Graham Platner raised $4.7 million last quarter.
In North Carolina, former Gov. Roy Cooper says his campaign raised $9.5 million during the quarter. - His likely opponent, former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Whatley, brought in $5.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2025.
