Rep. Grijalva says she was pepper sprayed by ICE officers

• Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) is still being prosecuted by the Justice Department for an incident in which she and Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.) and Rob Menendez (D-N.J.) scuffled with ICE officers.
• Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) was also physically removed, thrown to the ground and handcuffed by FBI agents for trying to confront Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem at a press conference.
• Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said Grijalva's claims are "not true" and that "she wasn't pepper sprayed."

What they're saying: Grijalva said in a video posted to social media that roughly 40 ICE agents raided a taco restaurant in Tucson that she frequents, Taco Giro, while she was present.

• "I was here — this is like the restaurant I come to literally once a week — and was sprayed in the face by a very aggressive agent, pushed around by others," Grijalva alleged.
• The Arizona Democrat said she "literally was not being aggressive, I was asking for clarification, which is my right as a member of Congress."

• She also accused officers of spraying members of the press and two of her staff members with pepper spray as well.

The other side: "If her claims were true, this would be a medical marvel. But they're not true. She wasn't pepper sprayed," McLaughlin said.

• "She was in the vicinity of someone who *was* pepper sprayed as they were obstructing and assaulting law enforcement. In fact, 2 law enforcement officers were seriously injured by this mob that [she] joined."
• McLaughlin added, "Presenting one's self as a "Member of Congress" doesn't give you the right to obstruct law enforcement."
