Alphabet tops $100B in quarterly revenue amid cloud, YouTube growth

Zoom in: YouTube's ads business grew 15% year-over-year to $10.26 billion. Google's cloud business grew 24% to $15.16 billion.

• Other business lines, such as search and its subscriptions, platforms and devices unit also saw double-digit growth last quarter.
• The company also raised its 2025 capital expenditures forecast to $91 billion and $93 billion, citing strong and growing demand for its cloud products and services.

Between the lines: Google, like tech rival Apple, has been looking to increase its software sales through subscriptions to applications such as its Google One cloud storage program and YouTube Premium.

• The company said Wednesday it has surpassed 300 million paid subscriptions in total. (For context, Apple said it surpassed 1 billion paid subscriptions in 2023, but it makes far less money on advertising than Google.)

The big picture: Alphabet's business, which is comprised mostly of Google advertising revenues, continues to flourish despite regulatory pressure.

• A federal judge ruled last month that Google won't be forced to spin off its popular Chrome browser or divest its Android operating system, despite losing a landmark search antitrust case waged against it by the Justice Department.
• Those remedies represented a huge win for the tech giant in Washington, as it looks to grow its business in the AI era.

What's next: A judge is expected to announce remedies in a separate Justice Department ad tech antitrust case against Google by early next year.
