Senate rejects Trump tariffs on Brazil

The Senate voted Tuesday to repeal President Trump's tariffs on Brazil, with five Republicans joining Democrats.

Why it matters: The vote serves as a symbolic rebuke of Trump's trade policies. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will not hold a vote on the measure (nor would Trump sign it into law).

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) led the legislation, and the final vote was 52 to 48.
GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine.), Mitch McConnell (Ky), Rand Paul (Ky.) and Thom Tillis (N.C.) voted yes along with all Democrats.

Zoom out: This is the third time Democrats have forced a vote on resolutions that would end Trump tariffs. It received the most GOP votes, so far.

The Senate voted to repeal Trump's tariffs on Canada in April, with support from Murkowski, Collins, Paul and McConnell.
But another April effort to end Trump's 10% across-the-board tariffs failed, with McConnell not voting.
