GE Aerospace CEO Larry Culp announces $30M workforce skills training program

Culp — surrounded by massive GE Aerospace engines at the company's Customer Technical Education Center, near the corporate HQ in Cincinnati — told me the announcement is a "glove fit" with President Trump's effort to encourage investment in American manufacturing jobs.

• "We've heard the president, with his executive order in the spring, talk about the importance of apprenticeships and skills training," said Culp, praising Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) for partnering on internship and co-op programs.
• "We're really doing this as part of an industry-wide effort to make sure that aerospace not only has the capacity, but the capabilities to fulfill the missions that we see in front of us," Culp added.

Zoom in: The foundation's $30 million over five years will help local programs around the country "purchase new equipment, help hire new instructing staff and expand curricula, and alleviate financial barriers for students," the announcement says.

• The foundation works closely with community colleges "to make sure that we are attracting and developing the talent pipeline that we need in the future," Culp told Axios.

"Inventing the future of flight requires workers with the cutting-edge skills ready to bring our visions to life," Culp says in the announcement.

• "Today's investment will build on our efforts to train new workers internally and in communities across the country as part of our commitment to revitalizing U.S. manufacturing."
