Whole Foods Market says 2026 will be all about fiber, fat and freezer meals — as consumers chase gut health, back-to-basics cooking and restaurant-quality convenience.
Why it matters: The grocer released its annual trends report Wednesday — a forecast that often foreshadows what ends up in grocery aisles and where food brands will chase consumer dollars next.
Zoom in: Whole Foods' Trends Council — made up of the retailer's employees including buyers and culinary experts — identified eight key food and drink themes it says will shape 2026.
- 🥩 Tallow takeover: Beef tallow makes a comeback as home cooks and chefs swap in "old-school" fats. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has publicly promoted beef tallow as an alternative to seed oils.
- 🌾 Fiber focus: Move over, protein. Fiber is gaining traction as consumers seek gut health and natural ways to feel fuller longer.
- ❄️ Freezer fine dining: Frozen arancini, pupusas and chef-inspired favorites become freezer staples.
- ⚡ Instant reimagined: Just-add-water meals and lattes get an upgrade.
- 🏺Kitchen couture: Stylish packaging turns pantry goods into counter décor.
- 🍋 Very vinegar: Craft vinegars and sipping tonics bubble up.
- 🍯 Mindful sweets: Fruit- and honey-sweetened snacks replace refined sugar.
- 👩🌾 Women farmers' spotlight: 2026 is the International Year of the Woman Farmer, per Whole Foods.
What's next: Expect to start spotting fiber-packed snacks, premium frozen entrees and tallow-based pantry goods hitting shelves by early 2026.
