Democratic maverick Jared Golden raises $1 million in third quarter

• On Monday, Golden drew a progressive primary challenger in state auditor Matt Dunlap.
• "Jared Golden has been very consistently voting with the Republican caucus on some very serious national issues that affect Maine people," Dunlap told Axios' Holly Otterbein in an interview last week.
• Former Republican Gov. Paul LePage is expected to win the GOP nomination.

What they're saying: "These figures show strong enthusiasm for Congressman Golden's efforts every day to deliver for Mainers, recognition of his unique ability to run and win in one of the most competitive districts in the country, and the importance of winning CD2 to restore balance in Washington," said Jordan Kathleen Burns, Golden's campaign manager.

• Golden raised $830,000 in the second quarter of 2025.

The other side: Republicans are convinced that LePage, a former two-term governor, will present a formidable challenge to Golden, the only House Democrat to vote to keep the government open.

• LePage raised $550,000 in the first two months of his campaign in the second quarter, which he announced in early May.

• He has yet to report his third quarter totals.

The big picture: Maine's airwaves will be saturated with political ads this cycle, with the Democratic super PAC already spending to defeat Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), the only Republican senator who represents a state won by former Vice President Harris in 2024.

• Collins will also be well funded, with an outside super PAC working on her behalf having raised $5.6 million in the first half of the year.
