Scoop: Senate GOP hits Ossoff over shutdown

The Senate GOP campaign arm is going up Wednesday morning with a new ad slamming Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) over the government shutdown.

Why it matters: Less than 12 hours in, both parties are wasting no time hitting the most vulnerable 2026 candidates for their role in the shutdown.

"Ossoff won't have to deal with the consequences of his shutdown, but Georgia's men and women in uniform will," National Republican Senatorial Committee Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia said in a statement first provided to Axios.

Zoom in: The NRSC ad focuses on the shutdown's impact on veterans.

It is a relatively small buy for now at four figures, but will run on X and YouTube. The video will also be sent directly to voters as part of a text message campaign.
"Because to Ossoff, free healthcare for illegals is the priority. But veterans, he couldn't care less," the narrator in the ad says.

Zoom out: It is officially a blame game war over the shutdown.

A top Senate Democratic super PAC is spending $1 million on an ad campaign hitting Sens. Susan Collins (R-Me.) and Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) over the shutdown, as Punchbowl News first reported.
The GOP House campaign arm is also rolling out ads in 42 battleground districts hitting Democrats over the shutdown, as Fox News first reported.
