Trump orders admin to declassify all records of Amelia Earhart, her final trip

Driving the news: Trump hailed the trailblazing pilot and announced the order on his Truth Social platform.

• "She was an Aviation Pioneer," Trump wrote.
• "Her disappearance, almost 90 years ago, has captivated millions."

Context: Earhart's 1937 disappearance flying over the Pacific Ocean is a cornerstone American mystery, fueling decades of speculation and theories.

• In addition to her expedition across the Atlantic, Earhart was also the first woman to fly solo and nonstop across the United States.
• Earhart was also the first woman to fly an autogiro, and the first person to fly nonstop and solo from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland.

What we're watching: Purdue Research Foundation (PRF) and the Archaeological Legacy Institute (ALI) announced a joint effort earlier this year to recover what they believe is Earhart's plane in the South Pacific.

• The expedition will embark from Majuro in the Marshall Islands in November, and is slated to return after a few weeks.
