McDonald's is reviving its Extra Value Meals starting Sept. 8 with new combo meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Why it matters: The fast-food giant is leaning into affordability with the new bundles to keep cost-conscious diners from trading down — or out.
State of play: McDonald's has been focusing on value since June 2024, when it launched $5 meal deals, which it extended multiple times. This January, the chain launched the McValue Menu.
- The company said the new value meals will deliver about a 15% savings compared with buying the entrée plus fries and a drink separately.
Catch up quick: McDonald's reported a 2.5% sales increase during its quarterly earnings call in August but warned that low-income consumers are shying away from fast food.
- CEO Christopher Kempczinski said visits by low-income consumers across the industry fell by double digits in the recent quarter compared to last year.
- "Reengaging the low-income consumer is critical as they typically visit our restaurants more frequently than middle- and high-income consumers," Kempczinski said on the Aug. 6 earnings call.
What they're saying: Danielle Marasco, chair of the National Franchisee Leadership Alliance, said bringing back the meals is a shared commitment from the company and franchisees.
- "We're working together to keep the menu items our customers love affordable for everyone in the communities we serve," said Marasco, who also is a McDonald's owner and operator.
McDonald's Extra Value Meals menu
Zoom in: There are eight Extra Value Meals that McDonald's is starting Sept. 8:
- Sausage McMuffin with Egg
- Sausage Egg & Cheese McGriddles
- Egg McMuffin®
- Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit
- Big Mac
- 10-piece Chicken McNuggets
- Any variety Quarter Pounder burger (Original, Bacon, or Deluxe)
- Any variety McCrispy Sandwich (Original, Deluxe, or Spicy Deluxe)
The intrigue: Two meals will have a bigger discount for a limited time, McDonald's said: a $5 Sausage McMuffin with Egg Meal and $8 Big Mac Meal.
McDonald's value menu to keep expanding
What's next: The company said Tuesday it will have "more price-pointed Extra Value Meals in the near future — like $5 Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddles and $8 10-piece Chicken McNuggets Meals in November."
- Snack Wraps, which returned in July after being discontinued in 2016, will be $2.99 through the end of the year, McDonald's said.
