McIver faces forced GOP vote on censure, removal from panel

• Democrats have accused the Justice Department of charging McIver for political reasons after she and two colleagues scuffled with officers outside the Delany Hall detention facility in Newark.
• McIver has said she was the one who was assaulted by law enforcement as they moved to arrest Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for trespassing.

Driving the news: Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) on Tuesday formally introduced a privileged resolution to censuring McIver, which forces a House vote within two days.

• The resolution would also remove McIver from the Homeland Security Committee, which oversees ICE.
• "McIver's continued service on the Committee on Homeland Security, which is charged with oversight of Federal immigration enforcement and other national security matters, would represent a significant conflict of interest," the resolution says.

The other side: McIver said in a statement in July, when Higgins initially announced his plans to force the vote, that the Louisiana Republican is "a bigot who wants to be back in the news."

• "This resolution aims to kick me off the committee that presides over the Department of Homeland Security and shame me for doing the oversight work that is my job," she said. "Good luck, Clay."
