The Powerball jackpot grew to an estimated $1 billion ahead of Saturday's drawing — the sixth jackpot in the game's history to reach the billion-dollar mark.
Why it matters: This is the highest lottery jackpot of the year, and the highest Powerball prize since April 2024, when a ticket from Oregon won $1.3 billion.
- Mega Millions' highest jackpot this year was $348 million, which a ticket in Virginia won June 27.
Powerball winning numbers
The winning numbers in Saturday's drawing were 3, 18, 22, 27 and 33 with a red Powerball of 17.
Did anyone win the Powerball?
The latest: Nobody matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing, according to Powerball.
- The jackpot for Monday's Labor Day drawing is now an estimated $1.1 billion, Powerball said Sunday.
Powerball jackpot for Aug. 30
The big picture: The top prize ballooned from $950 million Friday morning after game leaders reviewed national ticket sales, lottery officials said.
- The Aug. 30 jackpot has an estimated cash value of $453.1 million, lottery officials said Friday.
Flashback: The Powerball jackpot had been growing all summer; Saturday's drawing will be the 39th since the Powerball jackpot was last won in California on May 31.
Powerball drawing time
Saturday's drawing is at 10:59pm ET. It will be broadcast on the Powerball website and television stations across the country from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.
- Drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
States that sell Powerball lottery tickets
Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah do not participate in the lottery.
Powerball ticket price and Power Play
Powerball tickets are $2 per play, but for an extra $1 per play you can add the Power Play feature to "multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times."
- The multiplier number is randomly selected just before each drawing.
- The Match 5 prize with Power Play is always $2 million, Powerball said.
Between the lines: The 10X multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot annuity is $150 million or less, according to the lottery.
Powerball cut-off time: How late to buy tickets
The deadline to purchase tickets for Saturday's drawing varies by state because Powerball tickets are sold by individual lotteries.
- Most cut-off times are one to two hours before the drawing.
How to play Powerball lottery
How it works: Lottery players can pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers — five different numbers from 1 to 69 (the white balls) and one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball.
- "Quick Pick" or "Easy Pick" tickets can also be purchased where numbers are selected automatically.
Editor's note: This story was updated with the winning Powerball lottery numbers and that nobody won Saturday.
