Bondi declines action after Trump suggests further Epstein files release

• Some skeptics of Bondi's oversight have turned on President Trump.
• Bongino took a day off of work Friday after clashing at the White House with Bondi last Friday, Axios' Marc Caputo first reported.

Driving the news: Trump told reporters Tuesday that Bondi has "done a very good job," but appeared to agree with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who said there needs to be "more transparency" and suggested the president's administration would release more Epstein files.

• "I would like to see that also," he said. "But I think the attorney general... the credibility is very important, and you want credible evidence for something like that, and I think the attorney general's handled it very well."
• Trump said administration officials had "gone through years of" files, but Bondi had handled the case "very well, and it's going to be up to her," adding: "Whatever she thinks is credible, she should release."
• When asked if Bondi had told him whether his name appeared in the files, Trump said: "No, she's given us just a very quick briefing."

What she's saying: Bondi made clear during a Drug Enforcement Agency briefing that she was there to talk about law enforcement seizures of 64,000 pounds of methamphetamines and not Epstein.

• When asked whether Bongino should stay in his role, Bondi said: "I'm not going to discuss personnel matters."
• Asked about calls for her resignation over the handling of the Epstein files, she said: "I'm going to be here for as long as the president wants me here."
• On the DOJ and FBI memo, she said: "Today our memo speaks for itself, and we will get back to you about anything else."
