Robert Garcia wins key vote in House Oversight Committee race

By the numbers: Garcia won decisively, clinching the recommendation on the first ballot in a result that several members described as surprising.

• Garcia received 33 votes to 15 for Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), 8 for Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.) and 6 for Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), according to three sources who were present for the vote.
• Lynch, 70, became acting ranking member on the committee after Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) died.
• Lynch and Mfume, 76, hoped that their seniority and experience would win out, while Crockett had hoped to ride the wave of grassroots discontent with the older party establishment.
