Attempted murder arrest after crash at Liverpool soccer team's parade

A man suspected of driving a car that plowed into a crowd attending the Liverpool soccer team's victory parade this week was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and driving offenses, British police said Tuesday.

The big picture: Monday's incident in Liverpool, northwest England, which injured 65 people gathered to watch players parade their English Premier League trophy, is not being treated as terrorism, according to police.

Details: Merseyside Police Detective Chief Superintendent Karen Jaundrill said at a briefing Tuesday that the suspect was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs.

Police have described the suspect as a "53-year-old white man," but have yet to identify him. It's typical for police in the U.K. not to release the name of a suspect until the person has been formally charged.
Jaundrill said 11 people were still being treated in the hospital and all were in a "stable" condition.
