Pope Leo XIV to address youth at Chicago mass in June

Details: Doors open for the event at 12:30pm, the program starts at 2:30pm and the mass begins at 4pm.

• Tickets are $5 and go on sale Friday at 10am. On-site parking will also be available for $5.
• Archbishop of Chicago Cardinal Blase J. Cupich will greet the crowd and be the main celebrant during the Catholic Mass.
• Chicago Bulls announcer Chuck Swirsky will emcee the program.

Between the lines: It is fitting that Leo is making the address to Chicagoans first, as the Pope was born on the city's South Side and grew up in suburban Doltan.

The intrigue: Leo's address earlier this month to Catholic educators may offer some insight about what he will tell young people at the June program.

• "Think of the isolation caused by rampant relational models increasingly marked by superficiality, individualism, and emotional instability; the spread of patterns of thought weakened by relativism," Leo said according to the Catholic News Agency..
• "And the prevalence of rhythms and lifestyles in which there is not enough room for listening, reflection, and dialogue, at school, in the family, and sometimes among peers themselves, with consequent loneliness."

Zoom out: An obstacle Leo faces is how to balance today's Catholics wanting a more inclusive church with the traditional doctrine and practices of the religion.

By the numbers: The Catholic Church has been trying to bring young people back to the faith for years as nearly 6 in 10 Catholic adults are ages 50 and older, according to Pew Research.

• More than 80% of Catholics surveyed earlier this year by Pew said the church should allow Catholics to use birth control.
• Nearly 60% said women should be priests, a view Leo has made clear he does not share.
