President Trump on Friday released his fiscal year 2026 budget proposal, which would slash non-defense federal spending by 23%.

Why it matters: Trump's first budget proposal since returning to the White House is his chance to set his priorities for federal spending.

The budget was expected to include deep cuts in foreign aid and renewable energy and increased spending for the border and national security.
