NFL looks to pull off a massive event in its smallest market

• Green Bay's population, roughly 106,000, is only about a third of that.

What they're saying: Reps for Green Bay and the NFL each tell Axios that neither side had to make special adjustments to host the event.

• "You don't build a church for Easter Sunday. Developments have happened in this community, not because of the draft, but because we're a growing, thriving, great place to live, work and play," says Nick Meisner, VP of digital marketing and communications at Discover Green Bay.
• "Regardless if it's a small market — or Los Angeles or New York — the collaboration is still the same, and we're really excited to show off Green Bay to the world," says NFL senior director of events Nicki Ewell.

The intrigue: Ewell mentions the challenges in finding lodging space, but several local outlets report that local hotels and Airbnbs are seeing a surprising number of vacancies leading up to this weekend.

By the numbers: The city estimates the event will have a $20 million economic impact for the county and $90 million statewide.

What's next: The first round of the NFL Draft airs at 8 ET on ABC, ESPN and the NFL Network.
