Trump's still looking for answers about assassination attempts

• "It has not been explained to me perfectly by either Secret Service or the FBI," Trump told Fox News's Rachel Campos-Duffy in an interview that aired Wednesday, referring to the investigations into the incidents.
• "We have two good people running [those agencies] and I would like to hear the explanation," he said.
• "Even if it's not released to the public, I should be allowed to hear," Trump added. "And I might very well release it to the public."

Catch up quick: At a July rally in Butler, Pa., Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper after he allegedly fired on a Trump rally, nicking the president's right ear, killing an attendee and wounding two others.

• In September, Ryan Wesley Routh was apprehended shortly after a Secret Service agent allegedly spotted him in bushes with a rifle at a golf course where Trump was playing.
• Law enforcement deemed both incidents assassination attempts and investigations are ongoing.

Between the lines: Trump and his allies have repeatedly floated the idea that there's more to the attempts on his life than publicly known, even suggesting at one point — without evidence — that the Biden-Harris campaign's rhetoric inspired the attacks.

Zoom in: Trump, in the interview that aired Wednesday, raised questions about foreign apps discovered on Crooks' phone, the number of phones he had in his possession and how quickly he was cremated.

• He also questioned how Crooks' father was able to hire a "white-shoe" law firm that Trump said seemed beyond the family's financial means.

The latest: Congress launched investigations of the security failures by the Secret Service and others after the first shooting.

• A House task force issued a bipartisan report in December finding that the Butler assassination attempt was "preventable and should not have happened."
