LeBron James is taking his talents to Mattel as a "Kenbassador."
Why it matters: A new Barbie collaboration makes him the first professional athlete to have a Ken doll in their likeness, the brand announced Wednesday.
What they're saying: The four-time NBA MVP says this is an opportunity to show kids they can achieve greatness.
- "As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what's possible through hard work and dedication," James said in a statement. "Now as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to."
Zoom in: James' Kenbassador doll is one inch taller than the standard Ken doll and features his signature LeBron James Family Foundation's "We Are Family" T-shirt, Nike Terminator High sneakers, Beat headphones and "I Promise" bracelet.
- The patches on his varsity jacket signify his career milestones, jersey number and a nod to his hometown of Ohio.
- Barbie is a partner of the LeBron Family Foundation, giving back to the Akron, Ohio, community.
Fun fact: Barbie has released several women athlete dolls, including Naomi Osaka in 2021 and Venus Williams last year.
Zoom out: James' doll will be available at select Target stores, Target.com, Amazon, Walmart and Mattel Creations starting at noon ET Monday. There will be special availability at the UNDEFEATED store in Los Angeles on Saturday.
