Scoop: Krishnamoorthi raises eye-popping $3M amid Senate buzz

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.), the top Democrat on the House's China Select Committee, raised an astonishing $3 million in the first three months of 2025, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: The Illinois Democrat has amassed a $19 million war chest amid speculation that he may run for Senate next year if Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) retires.

"We are grateful to the dedicated donors who are fired up and ready to support Raja's efforts to stop Trump every chance he gets," Krishnamoorthi senior advisor Nick Ryan said in a statement.
"While Trump and congressional Republicans bear hug Elon Musk and their billionaire donors, It is more important than ever that Democrats have the resources to get out our message and fight back," Ryan said.

Zoom out: Krishnamoorthi demurred in December when asked if he is interested in a Senate run, telling Axios, "There are no vacancies."

Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.), the former Illinois Democratic Party chair and a member of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' (D-N.Y.) leadership team, is considering a run as well, as Axios reported in November.
Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.), also a member of Jeffries' leadership circle, has been floated as another possible candidate, as has Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton.
