Trump revisits health price transparency in new exec order

Flashback: The first Trump administration finalized rules requiring hospitals to post their negotiated prices for different health care services online, and for health insurers to post their negotiated rates for services.

• The idea was that making prices transparent would give patients more of a say in their care and bring down health care costs.

Where it stands: Hospital compliance has been slow. Less than a quarter satisfied all of the requirements as of November, according to a report from an advocacy group.

• The Biden administration took enforcement action against 18 hospitals between 2022 and 2025, online records show.
• Trump's new order directs the Treasury, Labor and Health and Human Services departments to "rapidly implement and enforce" the requirements.

What they're saying: "We support transparency, but the devil is in the details of how the executive order would impact the regulations," Chip Kahn, CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals, said in a statement.
