Trump says he's bringing back plastic straws

President Trump said Friday he will sign an executive order next week to reverse the Biden-era plan to phase out plastic straws in the federal government by 2027.

Why it matters: This is the president's latest move to roll back Biden-era environmental programs. He also pulled out of the Paris Climate Agreement and is moving fast on ending environmental justice programs in the EPA.

Catch up quick: The Biden administration announced plans in July to phase out single-use plastic in the federal government by 2035. The phase-out was part of a bigger project from the administration to tackle the environmental issues of plastic pollution and production.

This isn't Trump's first time coming for paper straws. In 2019, his reelection campaign sold reusable straws and said on his website that "liberal paper straws don't work."

What they're saying: Trump said on Truth Social he is ending the "ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don't work. BACK TO PLASTIC!"

Elon Musk chimed in on X by posting, "GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER!" with a screenshot from Truth Social.
