Democrats brace for "full-on combat" at "sh*tshow" DOGE hearing

• The Wednesday hearing — titled "The War on Waste: Stamping Out the Scourge of Improper Payments and Fraud" — will be the first congressional forum specifically dedicated to DOGE's work.
• Representatives from data analytics firm LexisNexis, conservative think tank Foundation for Government Accountability and the United Council on Welfare Fraud will testify, according to a memo obtained by Axios.

What they're saying: "I think it's going to be a sh*tshow. I don't really anticipate anything productive coming out of this," said Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).

• "I don't anticipate that it's going to be nice. I anticipate full-on combat, because DOGE is clearly the devil right now," she added.
• Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), the subcommittee's ranking member, said Democrats on the panel are "not going to stop holding Donald Trump and Elon Musk accountable."
• Crockett said she plans to use the hearing to "clarify for the American people why [DOGE's actions are] illegal, why this is lawless. I also plan to clarify that Elon Musk has no official role to do this."

The other side: Subcommittee chair Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said the hearing will focus on "Medicaid improper payments," adding, "I feel like this is very bipartisan."

• "We're going to be talking about solutions, there are going to be big savings," she added, saying she has "high hopes" that Democrats will engage productively.
