Fox News adds Lara Trump as new host

Fox News on Wednesday announced President Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, will be the host of a new weekend show, beginning Feb. 22.

Why it matters: The news underscores Trump's cozy relationship with the network and foreshadows a mutually beneficial partnership for his second term.

Trump has tapped numerous Fox News personalities to join his administration. Fox News has taken market share from its cable news competitors since the election.

Zoom in: The new interview and analysis show, called "My View With Lara Trump," will air on Saturdays at 9pm ET, according to a statement from Fox News.

The program will "focus on the return of common sense to all corners of American life as the country ushers in a new era of practicality," Fox News said.

The big picture: The hiring of a relative so close to a sitting president by a major TV news network is unprecedented, but former presidents have seen their relatives take roles at major networks after they've left office.

Most notably, former President George W. Bush's daughter, Jenna Bush, joined NBC's "Today" show after her father left office in 2009 and continues at the news network today as a morning show host.

Yes, but: Lara Trump, who has been married to President Trump's son, Eric Trump, for over a decade, isn't a newcomer to television, or Fox News.

She served as an on-air contributor for the network for around two years beginning in March 2021, after Trump left office. She was formerly a TV producer for CBS' "Inside Edition."
Of note: Lara Trump has also played a key role in conservative politics. She served as the Republican National Committee's co-chair for several months last year.

Zoom out: The hiring of Lara Trump represents how far the relationship has come between Trump and Fox News since the last election.

The relationship between the two became frayed after the network called the 2020 election for Joe Biden ahead of any other major TV news outlet.
But during the 2024 campaign, the two parties became more enmeshed.
Fox News' ratings soared last year as it served as Trump's top mainstream media outlet for interviews. Trump relied on Fox's friendly coverage during his campaign.
