Nurse practitioner tops U.S. News best jobs list

Nurse practitioner landed the No. 1 spot as the best job in the U.S. for the second year in a row, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The big picture: The company released the 100 Best Jobs of 2025 rankings Tuesday, based on hiring demand, future prospects, wage potential, employment, job safety, stability and work-life balance.

The top 10 jobs in the U.S.:

Nurse practitioner
IT manager
Physician assistant
Financial manager
Software developer
Information security analyst
Medical and health services manager
Data scientist
Speech-language pathologist
Actuary

What they're saying: "Careers in health care and health care support continue to show promise in the 2025 rankings due to a steady need for medical professionals that aid in the health and well-being of the population," Carly Chase, vice president of the Career business franchise at U.S. News, said in a news release Tuesday.

Between the lines: STEM-related jobs are in high demand in the 2025 jobs market.

This industry also ranks high for best jobs that pay $100k or more.
