Your options are extremely limited today if you need to shop for ingredients for Christmas cookies, holiday meals or last-minute gifts.
The big picture: Most grocery stores and retailers are closed Wednesday but drugstore chains and many convenience stores are open.
Fun fact: Christmas Day and the first night of the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah, fall on the same date this year for the first time in nearly 20 years, Axios' Alex Fitzpatrick writes.

Drugstores open Christmas Day 2024
- CVS: Hours vary, many open locations will operate with reduced hours but some stores will be closed. Many pharmacies also closed Wednesday.
- Walgreens: Most stores will be open 9am to 6pm Christmas Day and 24-hour locations will remain open regular hours, the company said on its website.
