Christopher Nolan's next film revealed as "mythic action epic" "The Odyssey"

Christopher Nolan is following his Oscar-winning smash "Oppenheimer" with an adaptation of the ancient Greek epic poem "Odyssey" — and the movie will be shot with new IMAX technology, Universal announced.

The big picture: Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron will star in "The Odyssey," based on Homer's 24-part series that was written more than 2,000 years ago and which follows Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his journey home after the Trojan War.

The "mythic action epic" will be shot across the world before bringing "Homer's foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time" July 17, 2026, Universal said on X Monday.

What they're saying: Hathaway said earlier this month after confirming she'd been cast in Nolan's next film that she's filled with "so much joy" in reuniting with the director with whom she worked on 2012's "The Dark Knight Rises" and 2014's "Interstellar."

"Getting to be invited twice really felt like something, three felt like it would've been greedy, so I never let myself hope that that would happen," she said. "That it has makes me emotional."
