Ex-D.C. officer found guilty of lying about tipping off Proud Boys leader

Zoom in: Lamond, a former lieutenant with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, was accused of being in contact with Tarrio from July 2019 to January 2021 when he shared information about law enforcement plans regarding the group's activities in D.C.

• Lamond was also accused of making false and misleading statements about his communications with Tarrio during an interview with federal law enforcement.

Zoom out: Tarrio was found guilty of seditious conspiracy and other charges related to the Jan. 6 riot and sentenced to 22 years in prison.

What they're saying: Lamond's attorney Mark Schamel said outside the courthouse, "It's unbelievably disappointing to see every single thing that Lt. Lamond did viewed through a lens to make it appear to be something other than it was," per AP.

• "There is nothing disloyal about him at all, and it's a sad day for him," Schamel said.

Matthew Graves, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, said Lamond "turned his job on its head."

• He continued: "The intelligence gathering role that Lamond was supposed to play is critical to keeping our community safe. His violation of the trust placed in him put our community more at risk and cannot be ignored."

What's next: Sentencing is scheduled for April 3.
