Scoop: Norm Ornstein to talk GOP "extremism" with House Dems

American Enterprise Institute scholar Norm Ornstein, a harsh critic of Republicans and President-elect Trump, will speak to House Democrats this week, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: The talk comes as Democrats are engaged in several fierce internal battles over who should represent them on key committees as they gear up to take on the Trump administration.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) reassured donors last month that he will "hold the line" on any threats to democracy posted by Trump, Axios' Hans Nichols reported.

Driving the news: Ornstein will appear at a House Democratic caucus meeting to discuss "countering Republican extremism in 2025," according to an invite obtained by Axios.

The talk is expected to happen after Democrats finish deciding on several contested committee ranking member positions.
Several septuagenarian committee leaders have been pushed out by younger colleagues arguing that the party needs more vigorous leadership to fight Trump.
