Mexico has intercepted nearly 1 million migrants this year β a record high, Noticias Telemundo's Marina E. Franco writes for Axios.
Why it matters: President-elect Trump has threatened new tariffs to force Mexico to stop the flow of U.S.-bound migrants. Increasingly, the country is already doing just that.
π By the numbers: The number of encounters in Mexico of people without visas or migration permits reached about 925,000 from January to August.
The U.S. Border Patrol registered about 1.5 million encounters in fiscal year 2024 β 25% fewer than in the previous year.
