Luigi Mangione, 26, arrested today on gun charges, is a "strong person of interest" in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the NYPD announced.
- Mangione was detained at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He has ties to Maryland, California and Hawai'i.
A McDonald's employee called local police after recognizing Mangione from coverage of the shooting suspect, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during an afternoon press conference.
- Mangione had multiple fake IDs, a U.S. passport — plus a gun and a suppressor (silencer) consistent with those used in the attack.

Mangione was carrying a three-page, handwritten document suggesting "ill will toward corporate America," NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at the news conference.
- Mangione's manifesto criticizes health insurance companies, the N.Y. Times reports.
- The gun appears to be a "ghost gun" (assembled from parts by the user, and untraceable) and "may have been made on a 3D printer," Kenny added.
The detective chief said the investigation included drones over Central Park and "every source of video that we could collect — hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours, from hundreds of sources."
- Asked if Mangione had been on authorities' radar, Kenny replied: "No, we did not have his name prior to today."
