Suspect arrested in burglary at Trump campaign office, authorities say

Driving the news: Surveillance footage captured a man identified as Kessler on Aug. 11 "forcing entry through the back door of the Ashburn office," which houses the Virginia 10th District Republican Committee's HQ some 30 miles from downtown Washington, D.C., according to the statement.

• The suspect spent a "brief period inside before leaving," the sheriff's office said.

What they're saying: "It is rare to have the office of any political campaign or party broken into," Sheriff Mike Chapman said in a statement at the time of the break-in.

• "We are determined to identify the suspect, investigate why it happened, and determine what may have been taken as well as what may have been left behind."
• Representatives of the Trump transition team did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment in the evening.

What we're watching: Kessler faces burglary charges under Virginia Code and will appear in court at at later date, per the sheriff's office statement.
