Decorated floats and larger-than-life balloons wound their way through New York City Thursday as part of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The big picture: This year's parade marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the parade, which first brought festive Thanksgiving cheer to the city in 1924.
- However, this year is only the 98th edition of the event, which did not take place in 1942, 1943 and 1944 during World War II, according to Macy's.
- This year, viewers can expect to see 17 character balloons, 22 floats, and 11 marching bands, the retailer said. There will also be performances by Broadway show casts, rapper T-Pain and The Temptations.
- In 2023, the parade was one of the very few non-sporting events to crack the 100 most watched broadcasts.
