About three out of five U.S. adults approve of the way President-elect Trump is handling his transition into office after his election win, a new CBS/YouGov poll out Monday found.
Why it matters: The survey follows a series of controversial cabinet picks and promises to implement controversial policies that would dramatically affect American life.
Driving the news: The CBS/YouGov poll found that 59% of Americans approve of the Trump transition.
- 55% of Americans report feeling either happy or at least satisfied with his election victory.
- However, while an overwhelming majority of Republicans (95%) feel optimistic or excited about Trump's term, few Democrats (15%) feel the same.
Between the lines: Yet the poll also underscores a sense of exhaustion among Democrats, with only 44% saying they're motivated to oppose him.
Zoom in: An overwhelming majority of self-identified Trump voters support his cabinet picks, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Pete Hegseth.
- The results were more mixed among all voters surveyed, with a significant share saying they did not have enough information on his nominees.
- 55% of Republicans support his nominees going through the traditional Senate hearing confirmation process, while 45% say they should be approved without hearings.
State of play: Even some of Trump's most controversial policies have strong support from the majority of Americans.
- According to the poll, 52% of respondents approved of Trump's tariff plans and 57% approve of Trump starting a program to carry out mass deportations.
Methodology: This CBS/YouGov poll was conducted Nov. 19-22 from a representative sample of 2,232 U.S. adults. The margin of error is ±2.3 points.
