House Democrats have a leadership fight on their hands

• Democrats are scheduled to meet Nov. 19 for their leadership elections.

Driving the news: Rep. Susie Lee (D-Nev.) was the first to launch her candidacy Tuesday in a letter to colleagues first reported by Axios.

• "The majority of our caucus will be intent on fighting back [against Trump] at every step of the way ... we all know that the people we represent expect a more nuanced approach," wrote Lee.

Zoom in: Rep. Greg Landsman (D-Ohio) jumped in shortly after, saying in a statement: "We need very strong, Midwest voices ... We won in a tough state, outran the top of the ticket, exceeded expectations, and I'm good at building teams and getting things done."

• Rep. Kim Schrier (D-Wash.) is also running for the role, her office confirmed to Axios.

State of play: With Jeffries, House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) all expected to be unopposed, this could be Democrats' most contested leadership battle.

• The role is currently held by Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), who is retiring from Congress this year to run for Virginia governor.
