Charted: Not all strikes are alike

The 53-day strike by Boeing workers that ended Monday night took a whopping bite out of a company that had already been pretty chewed up.

State of play: The strike cost Boeing more than $5.5 billion in earnings, according to Anderson Economic Group estimates.

• The aerospace giant was in the midst of grappling with a quality and safety crisis when machinists voted to strike in September, hobbling its already-constrained production and sending the company scrambling to raise funds.
