Poll: Harris has massive lead among swing state college students

Vice President Harris has a 50-point lead over former President Trump among two- and four-year college students in the seven swing states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada, according to a new Generation Lab poll.

Why it matters: It’s a commanding lead that could even swing the results in some of these key states, depending on turnout among this youngest contingent of voters.

Another factor is how many out-of-state students attending schools in swing states vote there vs. in their home states via absentee ballot.

By the numbers: When asked who they’d vote for in a head-to-head matchup between Harris and Trump, 76% of the surveyed students chose Harris and 24% picked trump.

In a race that included Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Chase Oliver: Harris got 72%; Trump, 21%; Stein; 5%; Oliver, 2%.

Zoom out: Harris has widened her lead among swing state college students.

In a Generation Lab poll conducted last month among students in the same seven states, Harris led Trump 63% to 19%.

The intrigue: 77% of respondents said their political preferences are totally or somewhat aligned with those of their immediate family members.

Methodology: This study was conducted Nov. 1-4 from a representative sample of 639 students from 2-year and 4-year schools in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada. The margin of error is +/- 3.9 percentage points.
