Above, Elon Musk awards Judey Kamora $1 million yesterday during an America PAC town hall in Lancaster, Pa., for signing a "Petition in Favor of Free Speech and the Right to Bear Arms."
- America PAC's website says seven other swing state registered voters have "earned" $1 million each over the past eight days.
Why it matters: Musk has given $119 million in four months to America PAC, his super PAC supporting former President Trump, and is camping out in Pennsylvania.
- Musk will appear with Trump this evening at a massive rally in Madison Square Garden. (See the lineup.)
Between the lines: The legality of the giveaway has been questioned. Federal law makes it a crime for anyone who "pays or offers to pay or accepts payment either for registration to vote or for voting."
- Legal experts tell CNN that "the main problem with Musk's giveaway was making voter registration a prerequisite to entering the sweepstakes. The problem could be solved if the sweepstakes was offered to any American, regardless of registration status."
The Justice Department's Public Integrity Section last week sent America PAC a letter saying the contest could run afoul of election laws.
