Former President Trump will participate in a town hall hosted by Fox News next week with an audience composed entirely of women, the network announced Friday.
The big picture: The event, which will focus on women's issues, comes as the Republican presidential nominee falls well behind Vice President Kamala Harris among women voters, particularly on abortion rights.
- Harris slammed Trump last week for calling himself a "protector" of women during her "Call Her Daddy" podcast interview, which was geared toward issues impacting women.
- The Democratic presidential nominee has a "standing invitation" by Fox News to "a town hall of equal stature," according to the network.
Zoom in: Trump's town hall event, moderated by Fox News' Harris Faulkner, will take place Oct. 15 and air Oct. 16, starting at 11am ET on "The Faulkner Focus."
- "Women constitute the largest group of registered and active voters in the United States, so it is paramount that female voters understand where the presidential candidates stand on the issues that matter to them most," Faulkner said in a statement.
- "I am looking forward to providing our viewers with an opportunity to learn more about where former President Trump stands on these topics."
What they're saying: "Women are not politically monolithic and want a thriving economy and safe communities," Trump campaign spokesperson Caroline Sunshine said in an emailed statement Friday.
- "President Trump is looking forward to hearing directly from the women of Georgia and discussing how he will bring down the cost of living and Make America safe, secure, and affordable again," she added.
Zoom out: CNN invited both candidates to participate in separate town halls with undecided Pennsylvania voters on Oct. 23 but only the Harris campaign has accepted the invitation as of Thursday.
- Harris is also scheduled to appear on the "The Breakfast Club" radio program Tuesday, hosted by Charlamagne Tha God.
The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.
